Threat of A.I. in SAG-AFTRA Agreement

Threat of A.I. in SAG-AFTRA Agreement

The looming threat of A.I. in the SAG-AFTRA tentative agreement is still ongoing. As more information is becoming public, it’s quite clear that the majority of the public is against the deal regarding the sections of artificial intelligence. The SAG-AFTRA union promised its members when they went on strike earlier this Summer, that artificial intelligence would be regulated in its usage and would not harm the careers of its members. SAG-AFTRA Members On A.I.

SAG-AFTRA members received information regarding Artificial Intelligence in the 2023 TV/Theatrical Contracts on Sunday, 12 November. Unfortunately, the opinion from SAG-AFTRA members on A.I. is understandably against the usage of Artificial Intelligence in their contracts. Multiple members of the union have openly stated their opinions on the matter and some are even encouraging other members to not allow such things in their contracts and ask for it to be cut entirely.

Benefits During Strikes

Benefits During Strikes

I have some bad and even disturbing news, in short the answer is simply it’s not going to happen. For anyone in the entertainment industry who is affected by the SAG-AFTRA strikes in America, benefits are unfortunately not accessible for the majority of workers. Where does this leave the workers? It means once again, most of its people are barely holding on and surviving off of their savings. As there is no end in sight for the SAG-AFTRA strikes, this means people are running out of time with the holiday season fast approaching.

SAG-AFTRA Negotiations

SAG-AFTRA Negotiations

ISAG-AFTRA’s negotiating committee voted unanimously to recommend to the National Board a strike of the Producers-SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical/Streaming Contracts which expired July 12, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. PT.

As of July 23rd, 2023 negotiations for SAG-AFTRA have still not concluded and Hollywood has come to a halt. For the first time in more than 60 years, the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild have banded together to link arms and protest over pay, conditions, and the overall concerns about Artificial Intelligence. This historic strike has come after failed negotiations with AMPTP.
