Just recently, a good old friend and work colleague posted a photo on Facebook showing a gender-neutral toilet seen backstage at Cirque du Soleil’s Ka in Las Vegas. As happy as I was about seeing this lovely sight, it also reminded me of how disappointed I continuously am regarding the – in my opinion – very poor efforts made by the entertainment industry towards diversity and inclusion.
The Backstagers is a graphic novel series like no other. It is a deeply caring series about a group of boys in a private high school who work backstage in theatre. And, especially for all of us who actually do work backstage, this imaginative story is a real treat.
Msoke and I met many years ago when he was still known as Namusoke and had just begun making a name for himself as a musician in Switzerland. Never giving up on his dreams, Msoke evolved ever more over the years, as a man, a person, and as the great musician he is today.
Storytelling can change lives. Twenty-seven years ago, I walked into Sec52, a small bookstore in Zurich. I was bored during my summer job and needed some reading material to keep my mind occupied. So, I bought a book which ended up changing my life forever. A book which opened a door and sped up a process which might otherwise have taken a good ten years longer.
It all began with a failed job opportunity in Hong Kong in October 2013. Part of me was disappointed when I realized I wasn’t going to be the production manager of a prestigious events management company after all. Mostly, however, I rejoiced and immediately thought, “This is it. I can finally write my memoir.” For years, I had dreamt of doing just that.
