Things I learned During My First Semester of Teaching

learned during teaching

This semester I taught my first class. The topic? Theatrical Sound Design. I learned a lot from teaching this class. Some were surprises and others were more reaffirming than new knowledge. As a way to reflect on some of these observations, I would like to share them with my readers.

The Digital Age Of Private Lessons

Digital Age

It seems with so much of our lives lived on a device or computer screen that it was only a matter of time before things like voice and acting lessons went digital. A trend started a few years ago of private lessons via Skype, FaceTime or other video chat programs. I have to say that I was a little skeptical of such methods.

On Innovation

Before you innovate, there must be a sturdy foundation to innovate upon. Before you lay a foundation, fundamental laws must be at work. A company or human being working behind the rose-colored glasses of innovation will always face the undeniable truth that innovation is faulty without a proper infrastructure that supports its networks.
