The Human Library is a place where readers check out real people rather than books on loan. A place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered, The Human Library hope to break down social barriers by providing a safe platform for individuals to challenge the stereotypes and prejudices that they may have through dialogue.
In brief, when we are looking at a new play, if the title is of interest, the first thing we do is look at the cast list.
You must have a cast list! Do not expect everyone to have to read your play to find out who is in it!
“The effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is”. This quote by Jim Carrey is something that I have always taken to heart. And I am convinced that most other (live) entertainment entrepreneurs feel the same way. We all know the success of the experience you create is no longer measured in money, attendance or the amount of fireworks you blast into the night sky.
These days Casting Directors often ask actors to bring in their own material to at least one night of their workshops or showcases. And, if you ‘re lucky enough to get a meeting with an agent who wants to see some work, you’ll have to be ready with material. My clients often ask me where to find material and how to choose. You want to be seen in the best light possible, right? You want to be very well-prepared and read something you’re actually right for…but how do you know what material will suit you?
