Are you a movie aficionado? Do you love open air cinemas? Then you should travel to Western Australia! The Sun Picture Gardens (also known as Sun Pictures) is the world’s oldest picture gardens still in operation. It is located in Broome, Western Australia. And, unlike most outdoor cinemas around the globe, this open-air cinema screens multiple films per night. Most outdoor cinemas which are in areas with favourable climate conditions screen only one or two films per week.
The Zurich International Film Festival (ZFF) is always worth a visit. Each year, the excellent and eclectic choice of films is astounding. As is everything else the festival offers to its guests and audiences. Workshops and presentations with international film makers. An international film music competition. The awarding of Lifetime Achievement Awards throughout the festival days. As well as the main awards ceremony honoring film creatives from all over the world.
Popcorn. Who here hasn’t munched on it at some point in their lives? It is inextricably linked to entertainment. Not all kinds of course. Connoisseurs of classical music and opera would most likely be aghast at all the crunching and rustling of paper bags during a performance. But, in circus, cinema, as well as during a myriad of other entertainment events, the iconic scent of popcorn will waft through the venue… and, most likely, you won’t be able to resist and will get yourself a bag, too.
Zurich’s Cinema at the Lake took place for the first time in 1989. It has since become an integral part of Zurich’s event calendar. Originally, it was planned as a fair-weather event only. But given that Zurich’s weather tends to be unpredictable and rather rainy throughout the year, the organizers soon gave up on their initial idea. Since then, the Cinema at the Lake has taken place every night, each August, for the last 32 years. Only to be interrupted once, last year, due to Covid19.
The Zurich Film Festival is an annual event which premiered in the summer of 2005. Since then this film festival has grown in size every year and has won much international acclaim. We were lucky to get an interview with the festival’s head of film coordination, Aurel Graf.
