So, What Is This Thing Called Theatre?

We feel it. We live it. And we read, write, hear about it. We discuss the latest developments in the performing arts. In our industry, the entertainment industry, many make theatre their life, dedicating their heart and soul, their energy and precious time to it. Often to an extent so it absorbs us entirely. So, what is this thing called theatre? Going back to the basics, what does it entail and where does it come from?

Hope you’re having a great week, TheatrePeople! Today I’m excited to introduce you to a phenomenal Broadway and television actor, Gene Gillette. Recently, Gene is best known on stage for his role in Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird, yet his experiences run far and wide: from War Horse to MacBeth to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time with The National Theatre. Aside from his long list of characters on stage, Gene is incredibly generous and talented. He loves the craft and the diverse elements which come together to tell a great story in the theatre. Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. Will Host the Tony Awards

Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. will be splitting hosting duties for the upcoming 74th Annual Tony Awards and the special concert following on September 26. Broadway Announces Vaccine and Mask Requirement

Broadway Announces Vaccine and Mask Requirement

The Broadway League has announced a vaccine and mask requirement for all 41 Broadway theatres in New York City for all performances through October 2021. Audience members, performers, backstage crew and theatre staff are required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized COVID-19 vaccine. Audiences are also required to wear masks at all times inside the theatre except while eating or drinking.

Pass Over on Broadway Requiring Vaccinations

The first play reopening on Broadway, Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu’s Pass Over, has announced its Covid-19 safety policies ahead of its first preview at the August Wilson Theatre on August 4 before opening September 12. Audience members will be required to provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination with an FDA or WHO-authorized vaccine, the production announced on July 15.
