A major national tour has been announced for the long time classic story of star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The international tour dates for Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet have yet to be announced, but their UK tour has been confirmed as well as their casting choices, including several young performers who originally made their debut in this production and now return as well-seasoned veterans of the company.
I’m excited to say that several of the young performers who were given their first performance experience in this production are now returning to the show as seasoned professionals. I’m also delighted to see many of the phenomenal original cast return, along with some beloved New Adventures legends making their debuts in the production.
The tour will have their opening night at Curve, Monday 3 July. Romeo and Juliet will then travel to The Lowry from the 11-15 of July with an audio described performance on the 15th. Continuing on their tour, their next stop is Wycomb Swan from 18-22 July. The growing tensions between houses of Capulet and Montague navigate their way to Hull New from 25-29 July.
After this, the company has a 5 week stop over Sadler’s Wells from 1 August- 2 September with an audio described performance on 19th of August.
From the 5-9 of September, the tour will then be moved to Milton Keynes before continuing on to the Alhambra from 12-16 September. Far from their fair Verona, they find themselves in Scotland at the Festival Theatre 19-23 September, and King’s Theatre 26-30 September.
Back on the road, they carry on to Lyceum 3-7 October, 10-14 Churchill, and carry on their expedition landing 17-21 October at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre before taking a small break.
They trek back up to Aberdeen finishing their UK tour at His Majesty’s Theatre from 31 October to 4 November.
All performances are currently rated for audiences aged 14 and up with tickets available on all theatre’s websites.
While the cast is unsurprisingly many of the original cast members, this doesn’t mean it’s not star-studded for the story of the star crossed lovers.
Cordelia Braithwaite, who created the role of Juliet and will be returning to her role, was nominated for a National Dance Performance for her performance of this character. Monique Jonas will also be making her debut as Juliet.
Critically acclaimed for their roles in Sleeping Beauty, Paris Fitzpatrick and Andrew Monaghan will also be reprising their part as the young stud, Romeo.
Another original cast member who is returning to their role is Danny Rebuens, continuing on his performance of Tybalt while the tour welcomes a long time company veteran, Richard Winsor, to debut as Tybalt.
Directed by Matthew Bourne (@Matthewbourne13 on Instagram) and his amazing New Adventures Artistic team, they are sure to do as wonderful a production, if not better, than when they premiered the show four years ago in 2019. You can follow the company on Instagram (@MBNewAdventures) to stay updated about this classic performance that audiences are dying to see.
