Red Hot Chili Peppers will release their second album this year, with a new record due to drop in a matter of weeks. The new LP collection titled Return of the Dream Canteen is available for pre-order prior to its release on 14th October, and comes swiftly after their recently released album Unlimited Love, which dropped in April 2022.
The band has always enjoyed the unconventional, and the Chilis announced their upcoming record in their own unique way at a live show. Speaking between songs at their Denver performance kicking off the band’s new tour, bassist Flea stated:
“Even though we put an album out four months ago, we have a brand new double album stacked to the brim. That’s two double [expletive] albums.”
We also know that Tippa My Tongue will be the title track of the album, which has been produced by the iconic Rick Rubin once again, as with the first album. Following the live surprise, the official announcements came across the Red Hot Chili Peppers channels, delving further into the group’s creative year:
“We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs.
A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slipstream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream.
When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back. The second of which is easily as meaningful as the first or should that be reversed. Return of the Dream Canteen is everything we are and ever dreamed of being. It’s packed.”

The band shows no signs of slowing down into their fifth decade together – Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on tour throughout the USA for the rest of the summer through to October, before heading to Australia and New Zealand with Post Malone in the New Year for shows through January and February 2023.
With such an outpouring of content this year and scheduled into 2023, we are enjoying the current resurgence and look forward to seeing what the band (who welcomed back guitarist John Frusciante last year) will come up with next.
