Kalush Orchestra: Ukrainian Band Release New Music

Kalush Orchestra: Ukrainian Band Release New Music TheatreArtLife

Kalush Orchestra, the Ukrainian Eurovision 2022 winners have been releasing new music. The band have been busy in recent times working on new material ahead of their upcoming appearance at the 2023 song contest. The fan favourites have dropped two new songs, including a collaboration and their first song in English.

Changes

Following their winning song Stefania, which had Ukrainian folk influences and lyrics in the native tongue, the recent offering from Kalush Orchestra came in the form of English lyrical song Changes. The band leader Oleh Psiuk explained:

“This is a song about our home – where we live and how we have learned to protect it. We continue to live even when danger looms over us. The house may change with us, but what is really important and native to our traditions always remains.”

Ushme Uturbe

The newest release from the band comes in a riveting collaboration between Kalush Orchestra, bbno$, and DITVAK. Self-described by the group as “an unusual combination of American rap and Ukrainian motifs that will definitely get stuck in your head,” the band filmed the video with the Canadian rapper bbno$ in Austin, Texas, and played the iconic SXSW festival together. Oleh explained how it happened to the NME, saying:

“In Austin, we met Alex (bbno$) for the first time in real life, but it was so easy and fun to work together on the set that it seemed like we were old friends. We hope that you enjoy the result of our collaboration.”

Eurovision 2023 celebrating the best of Ukraine

While the Grand Final for Eurovision 2023 will be held in the UK on behalf of Ukraine, the event will very much be celebrating the best of Ukrainian artists and culture.

The Kalush Orchestra band will of course be returning to celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest in May, and they will open the show and will of course remind audiences of their winning song from last year. The opening performance for the event is titled Voices of a New Generation, and will then be followed by the Flag Parade that will feature a unique performance by some iconic past Ukrainian participants of the Eurovision Song Contest.

“Get ready for a new twist on their Eurovision entries weaved with British classics, as Go_A, Jamala, Tina Karol and Verka Serduchka take to the stage and remind us all precisely why they became Eurovision Song Contest favourites.”

Speaking in anticipation of the event, Kalush Orchestra sound like they are eagerly awaiting playing at Eurovision 2023:

“We’ve been looking forward to performing in Liverpool ever since it was announced as host last year. The city has a world-renowned musical heritage and we’re delighted to finally be able to announce what an honour it will be for us to be there.

While we’re sad that we couldn’t bring the Eurovision Song Contest back to our home country, we’re really grateful to the UK for hosting this party on our behalf. We will perform for everyone in Ukraine to remind us that better days and our country’s victory is ahead, as well as to show the world what Ukraine is fighting for.”

As the Grand Final approaches, audiences can get in the mood by watching all 37 songs of Eurovision 2023, and enjoy the two new releases from Kalush Orchestra, who show no signs of slowing down on their winning streak.
