Sir Elton John has unfortunately had to postpone his upcoming Farewell Yellow Brick Road 2021 tour for a second time in recent years. The tour, which was due to cover the UK and Europe, was first cancelled due to the 2020 restrictions, and has sadly been postponed once again. Taking to social media to share the news with fans, the singer songwriter explained that due to health struggles the dates would be pushed back to 2023.
The announcement
Sir Elton John explained the rescheduling of the tour to fans on Instagram, saying:
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule the 2021 dates of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and the UK to 2023.
At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since. Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving. I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications. I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.”
While the news has been extremely disappointing to fans, Elton John has soldiered on and has also recently confirmed that he will still be performing at the much anticipated Global Citizen show on 25th September, which is a charity gig that will see the musician play five songs.

The Lockdown Sessions
Speaking about his excitement and giving a little insight as to how the album came to be, Elton John explained:
“The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one-off projects kept cropping up. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”
Although we are sad to see Elton John being forced to pull out of the tour, we are looking forward to hearing all of the new material from the forthcoming new album, as well as the Global Citizen gig, and wish him a speedy recovery.
