We are asking stage managers around the world, in a stage manager tag, some key questions about their job. Here is Alexa Brooke Lambert based in Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA.
1. Are you a minimalist or a hoarder Stage Manager?
I try to be more minimalist. Trying to do that in other aspects of life as well.
2. What do you always have with you on stage?
A cozy sweatshirt and a bottle of water.
3. What’s in your kit?
Laptop, phone chargers, pencils, highlighters, circle/dot colored labels, a thin black sharpie and a regulari one, highlighters, white out, mini stapler, eraser, scissors, eraser, hole punch, reinforcement labels, plain white paper, sticky notes, spike tape, glow tape, gaff tape, painters tape, hot glue, tape measure, band aids, mic tape, safety pins, hair elastics, tampons, Tylenol/Advil, USB drive, an extension cord, snacks.
4. Mac or PC?
Mac! In college I was a PC user but once I started working and learned how to use a Mac… there’s no going back!
5. What’s in your pencil case?
Enough pencils for 75 students and extras because some will get lost. 😉
6. Favourite colour highlighter
Yellow. Classic. And easiest to see in the dark.
7. Favourite pencil
A Classic Ticonderoga #2 Wooden Pencil and a Paper Mate Clearpoint Mechanical Pencil.
8. What may be surprising that you don’t use?
Caffeine. It makes me sick so if it’s a long day/night/week I just have to push through.
9. Coffee or Tea?
My go-to during a show is an Unsweetened Iced Tea. As I mentioned, I can’t have caffeinated coffee, but I do really appreciate a good iced decaf coffee in the mornings.
10. Favourite Genre to work in
Devised Theatre and New Works are my absolute favorite genres to work in. But I also love Musicals, especially with children, which is my full time job.

11. Advice for new Stage Managers
Don’t lose sight of the art behind the stage management. It does not exist without you.
