Zoya Kachadurian

We are asking stage managers around the world, in a stage manager tag, some key questions about their job. Here is Zoya Kachadurian based in NYC.

1. Are you a minimalist or a hoarder Stage Manager?

Hoarder of paperwork I’m afraid. Working on it.

2. What do you always have with you on stage?

Fanny pack with flashlight, spike tape, sharpie, pad and pencil.

3. What’s in your kit?

Varies depending on the job.

4. Mac or PC?

Mac. Once you go Mac you never go back. Tech support is the best!

5. What’s in your pencil case?

small ruler, sharpie, white eraser, mechanical pencil.

6. Favourite colour highlighter

day glow yellow only!

7. Favourite pencil

Mechanical with .7 leads.

8. What may be surprising that you don’t use?

I’m open to learning new tricks, software etc., but I’m pretty basic so I can still function without the bells and whistles.

9. Coffee or Tea?

Decaf! Impossible to find on gigs.

10. Favourite Genre to work in

I love the fast pace of large corporate events, but my heart is still with calling a Broadway musical or maintaining a Broadway play.

BONUS QUESTION
11. Advice for new Stage Managers

Know that, in spite of it being a powerful job, you both collaborate and SERVE the production. Don’t lose yourself, but come from supporting the process first.
