Editors Note: Gillian Abbott, dancer and actress, expresses the commitment of marriage through this piece of poetry.
Take my hand and I will lead you.
Your heart held, your crown placed, your horse groomed.
I take you as my bride.
To love and to hold until death washes over us, revealing
our faces beneath the veil.
Face to face.
Touch to touch.
Lip to lip.
I take you as my bride.
Dressed in silky snow, melting the cumbersome robes of our guests.
Sharing your steadfast spirit within, ever resonating in each soul.
I take you as my bride to guide the ones darkest in shame.
To invoke joy where excruciating pain swallows life like
hot taffy, solidifying just before the next breath.
I take you as my bride.
You, who know the black tornado picking up houses built on sand.
You, who rebuild your house on rock.
One. Brick. At. A. Time.
You, who believe in the unconditional love you hold.
You, who grow more beautiful each day.
I take you as my bride.
I see you.
I hear you.
And to you I say, I do.
