What is your favourite scene in the show and why?

The favourite scene in the whole show has to be ‘That Beautiful Sound’.
The number ‘That Beautiful Sound’ itself is a great scene to bring to life for all the actors. It is extremely exciting and enjoyable. Plus, the clones of Beetlejuice have a variety of characters and how they act out this scene with marvelous choreography is the cherry on top for the ‘That Beautiful Sound’ scene and acts as the pride of our Beetlejuice Korea team. I can assure you that you will understand what I’m saying when you watch the musical! Go and check it out!

가장 좋아하는 장면은 단연코 뷰리풀 사운드입니다.
뷰리풀 사운드라는 넘버 자체가 배우들이 공연을 실현함에 있어서도 너무 신나고 즐겁습니다. 게다가 비틀쥬스 복사본들이 각양각색의 캐릭터를 가지고 소화해내는 세련된 안무도 뷰리풀 사운드 넘버의 장면을 더욱 화려하게 만들어주며 우리 비틀쥬스 한국팀의 자부심을 갖게 해주기 때문이에요! 말보단 직접보시면 피부로 느끼실 겁니다. 그냥 보세요!

What are the top three skills you need for your role?

The first skill is musical expression that can be used to express diverse types of music. The numbers of Beetlejuice are comprised of music from different genres, which is why I believe that one would need to have a deeper understanding of musical expression.

This is also what our music director has emphasized!

The second skill is the ability to learn choreography. The choreography of Beetlejuice include not only dancing but also acrobatics, lifts, and different challenging action. Thus, I believe that it is essential to have a high level of technique and strong basic skills.

Third, I think you need quite a good amount of good vibes and extravagance. It’s not an easy role to play!

첫번째로는 다양한 음악을 소화낼 수 있는 음악적 표현력이라고 생각합니다. 비틀쥬스 넘버들은 다양한 장르의 음악들로 구성되어 있기 때문에 음악적으로 보다 더 폭 넓은 표현력이 필요하다고 생각해요><
음악감독님께서도 강조하신 부분이기도 하구요!
두번째로는 안무소화력입니다. 비틀쥬스 작품안의 안무들은 안무뿐만 아니라 아크로바틱, 리프트 등 다양한 안무적 요소들도 필요로 하기 때문에 높은 수준의 테크닉과 탄탄한 기본기가 있어야 소화가 가능하다고 생각해요.
세번째로는 저 세상 텐션의 캐릭터들을 소화하기 위한 흥과 똘기라고 생각합니다^^ 아무나 할 수 없어요!

What would be your advice for anyone who wants to do what you do?

My advice would be to not lose your true, original colors! I wish you all the best!

Who is the colleague that makes you laugh the most and why?

It is actor Honghak Oh. He always does things that no one expected. Hahaha. (He suddenly shouted “Make some noise! (in English!)” at the curtain call)

배우 오홍학 형이에요. 아무도 예상치 못한 일을 그는 항상 저지르거든요 하하하하하. (커튼콜때 갑자기 make some noise(소리질러)를 외친다던지)

What was it like to be one of the only shows that remained open during the height of the pandemic?

I am thankful for every moment and show. Musicals are known to have many people practice and rehearse together. A lot of time is spent in the rehearsal room, the dressing rooms, and on stage and I definitely miss these moments after a show is over. I am extremely grateful and thankful about the fact that I am able to have moments that I can miss and look back upon even during this COVID-19 pandemic.

공연하는 매회 매순간에 감사하고 있어요. 뮤지컬의 특성상 많은 인원이 함께 연습하고 리허설을 하며 많은 시간을 연습실, 분장실, 무대에서 보내게 되는데 이런 순간들이 공연이 폐막을 한 후에는 굉장히 그리워집니다. 코로나 팬데믹 속에도 그리워하고 추억할 수 있는 순간들을 공유할 수 있다는 것 자체만으로도 너무 행복하고 감사하게 생각하고 있습니다.

How did you continue to lift morale for the team while ensuring everyone’s health and safety?

Since the performance itself is quite physically challenging, our team always shares snacks and supplements for each other to bring up good vibes. Everyone is so fun and witty that we are always laughing the whole time. There would be no better cheer up than this hahaha.

공연이 워낙 체력적으로 소모가 많은 작품이다보니 서로가 먹을거나 각종 영양제 같은 걸 서로 챙겨주며 화이팅해요ㅎㅎ 그리고 무엇보다 각 사람들이 너무 재밌고 재치있어서 웃음이 끊이지 않아요. 이보다 더 좋은 파이팅은 없을걸요?ㅎㅎ

Tell us one thing about yourself that you learned during the pandemic?

I have learned how thankful I should be for the audiences. I have been feeling down after seeing how empty the auditorium can be since the pandemic. Nevertheless, I am very touched and warmed by the audiences that still come to see our show. I would like to take this opportunity to deliver my sincere gratitude and thanks to the audience who have come to see our show.

무엇보다 관객들에 대한 감사함이였던 것 같아요. 팬데믹 이후에 객석이 많이 비는 것을 보면서 속상했어요. 그런데 그 위험속에서도 객석을 채워주시는 관객분들을 보면서 가슴이 먹먹해지고 울컥하는 경험을 많이 했었어요. 이 자리를 통해 다시 한번 관객분들께 감사하다고 진심어린 마음을 전하고 싶습니다.
