Children ages five to 11-years-old must show proof of vaccination to attend performances at any of the 41 Broadway theatres in New York City, the Broadway League announced. This updated policy follows the new guidelines allowing children to receive their COVID-19 vaccine and goes into effect December 14, 2021.
Children ages five to 11 now must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult and must have proof of at least one dose of an FDA or WHO approved vaccine, according to the Broadway League. Previously, guests in this age range were allowed to present a negative test to enter the theatre, but with vaccinations opening up to younger children, official Key to NYC Guidelines require them to get vaccinated as well. Children under five must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult and have a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test. All guests over the age of 12 must be fully vaccinated.
Other than this update, the previously announced vaccination and mask policy is still in effect for all performances through at least February 28, 2022. Masks are still required for audiences. Future guidelines will be determined at a later date.
“As of Sunday, December 5, we surpassed attendance with over two million theatregoers and completed over 2,000 performances. We believe that our focus on safety has helped us achieve this milestone,” Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our theatres with their family and friends during this holiday season. There’s no time better than now to celebrate the return to theatre!”
