6 Must-Listen Podcasts for Actors

Podcasts for Actors

The global entertainment industry is constantly changing and in 2023 actors are expected to keep up with a lot. From not only practicing our craft and updating our materials but also keeping with the industry itself. With COVID-19 guidelines and technology trends (say hello to A.I., the metaverse, and livestreamed theater) it can be quite a lot for the most organized actor to keep up with. Not to mention, the actor’s life can feel lonely and discouraging at times, making it hard to stay motivated and inspired. This is why I turn to podcasts. I absolutely love listening to industry interviews and learning about new actor resources (Did YOU know there’s a website where casting will give feedback on self-tapes?!) Plus you can listen during your commute, gym workout, or while you’re cooking (gotta love passive consumption).

Without further ado here are 6 Must-Listen Podcasts I recommend to actors to help them feel less alone, more inspired, and stay well-informed on their career journey. #actorslife.

1 . Audrey Helps Actors

Have you just joined the industry but are not sure where to begin? Been in the industry for years but feel you’ve hit a plateau? Meet actress Audrey Moore, she helps actors take ownership of their careers so they kick ass. How? By investing in tools and laying the groundwork for the long haul. Think of it as business school for actors…and it’s FREE. The ball is in your court – ready to level up?

“Every episode Audrey invites someone from the business to chat about everything from advice for auditions and getting a new agent, to the nitty gritty of exploring different theatrical markets and information about how you can better use your union.”

2. Mentors on The Mic

Podcasts for Actors

If you’re a fan of the School of Greatness hosted by Lewis Howes or consider yourself a self-help junkie then you’ll love this interview-style show hosted by NYC-based actor, Michelle Simone Miller. Her goal is to “encourage you to follow your dreams and give you a playbook on how to get there.”

“A career in Entertainment is anything but linear. Each path is different and finding inspiration and motivation can be hard to come by. But not anymore! Join Michelle Miller and hear from the most interesting people in Entertainment and how they found success on their terms in the industry. Each week Michelle talks to Directors, Producers, Network Execs, Actors and more to learn how they started, how they made it, and hear the real true story of their journey. Mentors on the Mic is the place to find Mentorship without having to ask for it.”

3. OneBrokeActress

Being an actor can be rough and at times it seems like everyone else is successful but you. You’re in class, and you created your own work but you’re still not booking auditions – ugh – which means you have to work that part-time job you hate to make ends meet. Don’t worry you are not alone!  – also maybe start looking for a part-time job you love. Join Sam Valentine as she and her guests share their honest accounts of what it means to be a working actor.

“Listen in on business conversations, stories from pros all around the industry, steal their tips and tricks (plus some of mine too) from the One Broke Actress Podcast.”

Stay up-to-date on the latest industry news weekly with Lesley and Dan. I  started listening to this podcast during the first week of lockdown per the recommendation of Audrey Moore. This podcast kept me informed when I was so confused and concerned about the future of the film and television landscape. Also as someone who watches a lot of television, I spend a lot of time waiting for my friends to catch up (#theworst) to discuss my thoughts so it’s such a treat to hear Lesley and Daniel break down their thoughts.

“Welcome to TV’s Top 5! Each episode features The Hollywood Reporter’s West Coast TV Editor Lesley Goldberg and Chief TV Critic Daniel Fienberg breaking down the latest industry headlines. The podcast is broken into five segments, offering a deep-dive analysis of the latest TV news and a critical look at current and upcoming shows. Every episode of the weekly podcast includes an in-depth interview with one of the industry’s most powerful showrunners or an up-and-coming new voice.”
