Ross is currently artistic director of Tortoise in a Nutshell where he most recently directed the international co-production, “Fisk” opening in Denmark. He also directed Scotsman Fringe First winning “Feral” (co-produced by Cumbernauld Theatre). Other directorial credits for the company include “The Lost Things”, “Grit” and “The Last Miner” which have previously received two Kotorski Theatre Festival Awards and two Total Theatre Awards, two Arches Brick Award and one Grünschnabel award nominations. The productions have toured throughout the UK, Europe and beyond. His productions have appeared in over 80 cities in 10 different countries throughout the world. Ross Mackay has previously directed the Scottish Arts Club award nominated, “Myth of The Singular Moment” and the critically acclaimed, “Velvet Evening Séance” and is currently associate artist with Perth Theatre. As a freelance artist, Ross has worked with a number of companies including The Lyceum, The Traverse, Playwrights Studio Scotland, Dundee Rep, Perth Theatre and Freshly Squeezed Productions. Ross has previously been an artist on Attachment with the National Theatre of Scotland. He was the first recipient of a Federation of Scottish Theatre’s Supported Director Bursary and has worked on several productions that have toured nationally and internationally as director, puppetry director and magic consultant. He is the proud owner of a Blue Peter badge.
