Hope all you TheatrePeople are staying safe out there. This week, I’m pleased to introduce you to Adam Michael Rose, a friend I met on the road at several theatre conferences and a dialect coach extraordinaire. Adam lives in Los Angeles but supports theatrical productions across the nation including Mary Poppins, Newsies and a flurry of other hits.

Come From Away! I love that this show is a positive-themed story that came out of 9/11. While the music first caught my attention, the story delivered the final impact. From start to finish, this is a story about selflessness, kindness and generosity. When I’m seeing this show, I can’t help but feel surrounded by the love and support of the people of Newfoundland, Canada.
When I was a sophomore in high school, I auditioned for the fall production of Noises Off. I was a first-year theater student, and therefore new to the department at the time. Back in those days, the cast list was printed on a sheet of paper and thumb-tacked to the cork board outside of the drama room. It was that Friday morning at the end of audition week when the cast list was posted, and I saw my name next to FREDDIE. This is still to this day one of my favorite moments of all time.
I started performing when I was very young with a fantastic children’s theater company in suburban Washington D.C. It was the summer and we were doing an old Rogers and Hart show called Babes In Arms. At some point in the second act (after a quick change), I was singing a song when I noticed multiple people in the audience laughing. I even recognized one of the laughs as a parent of one of my cast mates. I remember trying not to focus on the laughs through the rest of the number. As soon as I was able to exit the stage, I realized that I had forgotten to zip up my pants after that quick change.
NOTE: This did NOT turn into an X-rated moment by any means!
I LOVE being transported to another world through live performances. Theatre has the amazing ability to introduce us to different cultures throughout the world. As a dialect coach, I love being able to explore different cultures with actors while still in the rehearsal process.

I’ve found theatre to be like a giant mirror… You can aim that mirror at the rest of the world and learn about people, places, historical events… You can also aim that mirror at yourself and discover your own thoughts and feelings.

Adam Michael Rose is a Los Angeles-based dialect coach and teaching artist. Adam has worked with actors from Game of Thrones, You, and Crazy Ex Girlfriend. He was also the production dialect coach for ABC’s American Crime Season 3. On stage, he’s coached productions throughout the country including Newsies, The 39 Steps, and Mary Poppins. He’s been a guest artist at state festivals all over the country for almost 10 years. Adam is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and he’s a member of VASTA, EdTA, CETA, AEA, and SAG-AFTRA.

Mitch is the Founding Creative Director of Theatre Avenue, where he designs digital projections for the performing arts. For the last 14 years, Mitch has produced digital content for theatre and ballet companies, universities, and schools internationally. His work ranges from original illustration, animation, and motion design for productions such as Willy Wonka, Swan Lake, Nutcracker, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, Lion King and beyond. Mitch travels the country teaching projection design workshops, conducts virtual learning sessions, publishes media content, and writes for theatre magazines and blogs. Before his dive into the theatrical world, Mitch was an art director and designer creating nationwide campaigns for corporate and non-profit organizations like NBC News, Global Down Syndrome Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the Alzheimer’s Association. He worked for 10 years with hundreds of clients as a graphic and web designer, illustrator, and motion graphics artist. Mitch earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Ball State University, where he studied art and design, the humanities, and computer animation.
