Get ready to rock out on Broadway with “THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL,” the electrifying new musical comedy inspired by the legendary chart-topping hits of Huey Lewis and The News.
The production, first showcased in 2018 at The Old Globe, brings an original script by Jonathan A. Abrams with story credits to Tyler Mitchell and Abrams. It draws inspiration from the music of Huey Lewis and the News, the popular ’80s band recognized for their catchy pop/rock tunes performed by their lead singer known for his raspy voice and likable persona.
Transporting audiences back to the year 1987, this high-energy production features beloved mega hits like “Do You Believe in Love,” “Hip to Be Square,” and “If This Is It.”
Follow the journey of Bobby, a former rocker turned corporate climber, and Cassandra, a dedicated business woman torn between ambition and tradition, as they navigate second chances and rediscover the power of love and friendship.
The lively and eccentric energy of the musical rom-com is said to also evoke memories of another production: “Hairspray.” Similarities can be found in the quirky humor, colorful characters, and playful nods to the time period.
