Dante Jamal Payne: I am a driven performer. I grew up on the Southside of Chicago. I have spent the majority of my life singing. I would consider myself primarily a vocalist, however I am a strong mover and I would like to think I can adapt to any task that may be asked of me to make my performance that much stronger.
My dream role would be Simba in Lion King the Musical but sometimes I’ll see other shows that catch my eye that I want to be in just as bad, like Dear Evan Hanson or Hadestown.
I pull my inspiration mainly from Michael Jackson and Prince. There’s been many other influencers but these are definitely the main two because of the authenticity of their performances. So therefore I strive to be authentically real and always deliver my best each time I hop up on stage!
I don’t know how to express this any other way than to say it’s like a drug I can’t live without. I have done other jobs and NOTHING fulfills me like being on stage so any chance I get I hop up and grab a mic, I do. No amount of money and no level of recognition can beat creating a genuine connection and seeing people’s lives brighten up just a little bit more from a performance I was blessed to be a part of!
Times are pretty difficult globally right now (Due to COVID-19). Our way of life as performers is changing, but above all else this gives us an opportunity to bond, grow a little closer and go behind the surface. ACTUALLY get to know each other and love one another. I know it’s scary but this could be the only chance we get to build a strong base for us to project ourselves to the next level! So stay strong and show all the love you can right now cause you may never know who may need it!
