Opera Australia New Year’s Eve celebrations invite audiences to “dress up to the nines, kick up your heels and leave the crowds behind as you stroll towards the iconic sails”. Guests are invited to enjoy a few drinks overlooking the magnificent Sydney Harbour before taking their seats to hear all the biggest arias in the opera gala performance. “There’s nowhere in the world like Sydney on New Year’s Eve, and there’s nowhere closer to the action than Sydney Opera House.”
Be centre stage with Opera Australia this Sydney New Year’s Eve
Opera Australia will be front and centre this New Year’s Eve when it presents its glamorous Opera Gala concert in the Joan Sutherland Theatre, giving guests an opportunity to be right in the heart of all the action on both the stage and the Harbour.
New Year’s Eve is the biggest night of the year in the Harbour city. The midnight fireworks display is world famous and the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge is the centrepiece, making the Sydney Opera House one of the best vantage points in town.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds, guests can opt for the ultimate, once in a lifetime New Year’s Eve experience and book the Platinum package that includes the Pre-Gala Dinner, Platinum reserve seating for the Concert, a program, champagne at interval and entry to the Midnight Party in the Joan Sutherland Northern Foyer.
All guests will be able to watch 9:00pm fireworks during the interval, with the most breath-taking views overlooking Sydney Harbour from the Northern Foyer of the Opera House, this event includes drinks, canapés and entertainment.
Hosted by the irrepressible Jonathan Biggins, the Opera Gala Concert combines some of the greatest arias ever written and performed by a selection of Australia’s finest singers and musicians, all wrapped for a night of epic celebrations. The performance will include Sopranos Natalie Aroyan and Petah Cavallaro, Mezzo-Soprano Agnes Sarkis, Tenor Diego Torre, and Baritone Luke Gabbedy.
The show will be in multiple languages with English subtitles, and will run for approximately 2 hours 30 minutes with a 30-minute interval for the 9pm fireworks.
