Mrs. Doubtfire The Musical Coming To Manchester UK In 2022

Mrs. Doubtfire The Musical Coming To Manchester UK In 2022 TheatreArtLife

Help is on the way, dears! Mrs. Doubtfire The Musical is coming to the UK for a month-long run in Manchester in the autumn of 2022. Fresh from the success of the Broadway production that has taken the US by storm, the world’s favourite nanny is jetting back to her “motherland” to wow audiences across the pond at Manchester’s Opera House.

The story of Mrs. Doubtfire

Back in the 1990s, the original film starred the beloved Robin Williams with Sally Field as Daniel and Miranda Hillard, and Pierce Brosnan as Stuart Dunmeyer. The 1993 movie captured a generation of kids (and their parents) hearts, telling the story of divorcing parents in 90s San Francisco.

Following the split of the marriage and struggling being away from their three children, voice artist Daniel opts for the obvious choice to remedy the situation – to pose as a housekeeper so that his ex-wife Miranda will unknowingly hire him to spend time with the children.

A hilarious and heartfelt story about holding onto your loved ones against all odds, Mrs. Doubtfire is the musical comedy we need right now. Out-of-work actor Daniel will do anything for his kids. After losing custody in a messy divorce, he creates the alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in their lives. As his new character takes on a life of its own, Mrs. Doubtfire teaches Daniel more than he bargained for about how to be a father.

Mrs. Doubtfire The Musical

Mrs. Doubtfire has been created by some of the brightest Broadway talents, with a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, original music and lyrics by Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, (the Tony Award-nominated team behind Something Rotten!, along with O’Farrell), direction by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks (Hello, Dolly!), scenic design by David Korins (Hamilton), choreography by Lorin Latarro (Waitress), and music supervision by Ethan Popp (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical).

The musical version of Mrs. Doubtfire debuted in Seattle back in 2019 before moving to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway, where it’s still going down a storm with audiences. When Mrs. Doubtfire launched in Seattle, the show smashed the record for the bestselling new musical in the history of the theatre, playing to more than 75,000 people in just 42 performances.

Mrs. Doubtfire at Opera House Manchester

The production will run for a season at the Manchester Opera House from 2nd September to 2nd October 2022 for a total of 34 shows. Tickets are now on sale, and the UK is feeling the excitement in bringing such a new and special show coming from Broadway after a tough few years. Speaking of the anticipation around the premiere, the Palace and Opera House Theatres general manager Sarah Bleasdale explained:

“We’re incredibly excited to have another production launching in the UK from Manchester, and this time – direct from Broadway. We continue to proudly showcase the very best in new musical theatre under our “Manchester gets it first” banner, and know that our audiences have a real treat on the way with the iconic Mrs. Doubtfire. This will be a big moment for our theatres and the city, and a production we cannot wait to open our doors to.”

We can’t wait for Mrs. Doubtfire to land in the UK, and will keep you up to date with all the latest news and announcements as they happen, poppets.
