Cinderella: The New Movie Musical Coming To Amazon Prime

Cinderella: The New Movie Musical Coming To Amazon Prime TheatreArtLife

The latest exciting live action musical theatre film, Cinderella is due to be released in a matter of weeks on Amazon Prime. Starring pop sensation Camila Cabello as the lead, the film features an all-star cast and crew, and has been anticipated since pre-pandemic times.

Cinderella

Written and directed by Kay Cannon, best known for the Pitch Perfect series of musical films, the new movie is rumoured to stay true to the Charles Perrault classic story, but with a modern take. Brought to life by producers James Corden, Leo Pearlman, Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh, the pandemic has not dampened their vision and although production was delayed in 2020, the team has worked to the film’s new release date which will be 3rd September 2021.

The cast

The on-screen cast is an eclectic mix of musical and acting royalty, and we are anticipating this to be one to remember.

Camila Cabello as Cinderella

The Cuban-born songstress Camila Cabello is making her acting debut in the role, and is best known for her two solo albums after rising to fame on The X Factor with girl group Fifth Harmony and of course the catchy solo single Havana.

Billy Porter as the Fab G, a genderless fairy godparent

Best known for his extensive work on Broadway as well as his singing and acting work, Billy Porter has won a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy, and is well-known for his role in the television series Pose.

Idina Menzel as Vivian, Cinderella’s stepmother

Another award-winning Broadway star, Idina Menzel has worked across the stage and screen, and following her success in Frozen it doesn’t look like she will let it go anytime soon.

Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert

British actor Nicholas Galitzine has been working since 2014 and is already making waves, featuring in two notable films High Strung (2016) and Handsome Devil (2016).

Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan

No stranger to serious roles or musical and fun ones, Pierce Brosnan is fondly thought of by most for his unique roles as James Bond in the 1990s, or conversely in Mamma Mia! and Mrs Doubtfire.

Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice

The London-born actress has been acclaimed across television, film and music, and voice acting roles. You might recall her musical theatre appearance in the film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, where she played the role of Carlotta Giudicelli.

Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer as the Stepsisters

Actress and singer Maddie Baillio has appeared in the television special Hairspray Live and the film Dumplin’. Charlotte Spencer is an English triple threat who is best known for her leading role in The Living and the Dead. These rising stars look sure to make a splash as the stepsisters.

John Mulaney as John, a Footman/mouse

Funny man John Mulaney is best known for his comedic works including writing for Saturday Night Live, performing on Broadway, and his outlandish animated comedy voice acting in Big Mouth.

James Corden as James, a Footman/mouse

England’s recently exported presenter, comedian and actor James Corden is not only producing the film but has a role as well as being named as a co-writer. He’s best known for much-loved British comedy Gavin & Stacey, and has found success across the pond in the USA hosting The Late Late Show.

Romesh Ranganathan as Romesh, a Footman/mouse

A wild card in the casting is found in the deadpan comedic styles of Romesh Ranganathan. The British comedian, presenter and actor is best known for his unique comedic style, and presenting the wonderfully inventive travel series The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan.

Missy Elliott as Town Crier

The incredibly talented musical superstar Missy Elliot is the best-selling female rapper in history, and is the first female rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The movie is set to be Elliott’s third film role in character, and that’s an exciting prospect for audiences.

Tallulah Greive as Princess Gwen

Young Australian-Scottish actress Tallulah Greive is another up and coming star, and is best known for her role in the CBBC sitcom series Millie Inbetween.

Beverley Knight

Incredible songstress Beverley Knight MBE is also featuring in the movie, although it’s unclear whether this is as a singer or an actress at this point.

The music

So far we know that Camila Cabello and Idina Menzel have been making original music for the film, and that the soundtrack is rumoured to include the songs Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) by Beyoncé, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Eurythmics, and Good Times by Chic.
