This trio of poems was written in my early and formative years; between the ages of 14 to 20. Each one addresses relationships and is said from the perspective of the writer. The first two are about friendships and the third about finding that special someone. They are simple for I thought with a simple mind in my youth. As I got older, so did my understanding of wordplay and multiple levels of context. It’s nice to see how far I’ve come poetically.
FRIENDS
A FRIEND OF A FRIEND
SO I GUESS WE’RE COOL
CAN WE BE ALSO BE FRIENDS
OR DOES THAT BREAK THE RULES
UNCERTAINTY AND CONFUSION
SURROUND OUR COMMUNITY
SINCE YOU AND HER ARE UNITED
THEN WE MUST SHARE THE UNITY
UNITED WE STAND
DIVIDED WE’RE APART
WE BOTH HAVE FRIENDSHIPS
SO LET’S LET OURS START
AND WHO REALLY KNOWS
SOMETHING MORE MAY EVOLVE
WE MIGHT LAY IN DAISY FIELDS TOGETHER
AND FEEL THE EARTH REVOLVE
BUT UNTIL THAT HAPPENS
BEFORE ROMANCE CAN EVEN BEGIN
WE CAN JUST HOOK UP
AS REALLY GOOD FRIENDS
TEDDY BEAR LOVE
EVEN THOUGH WE AREN’T A COUPLE
AND TOGETHER LESS THAN APART
YOU ARE ALWAYS ON MY MIND
AND FOREVER IN MY HEART
THE KIND OF LOVE I HAVE FOR YOU
IS LESS PHYSICAL AND MORE MENTAL
LIKE THE BEAR I MAY LOOK WILD
BUT INSIDE THIS TEDDY IS GENTLE
SO, ON THIS DAY, I GIVE TO YOU
FROM ME A POETIC TOKEN
TO SHOW YOU THAT MY HEART IS TRUE
AND OUR FRIENDSHIP’S NEVER BROKEN
MISS U MUCH
WHAT DID I DO
MY PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED THE DAY I MET YOU
IT APPEARS TO ME AS IF ALL MY DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE
THE STARS ABOVE MUST SHINE DOWN ON ME WITH A SPECIAL GLEAM
THE MOON NOW HITS MY NIGHTS WITH A GLORIOUS BEAM
I CAN’T EXPRESS THE JOY I FEEL AS I GAZE INTO YOUR SOULFUL EYES
I REALIZE THAT I NOW MUST BE THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE
I OFTEN ASK MYSELF WHY WAS I CHOSEN FOR THIS ECSTASY
COULD IT BE YOU AND ME WERE TRULY MEANT TO BE
I FIGURE IT WAS THE LOVE THAT I’VE GIVEN IN THE PAST
TO HELP HUMANITY IN EVERY RACE AND CLASS
OR MAYBE IT WAS THAT I HAVE ALL MY LIFE BEEN TRUE
TO WHAT I BELIEVE IN AND ALL THE THINGS I DO
COULD IT BE MONETARY STATUS OR THE DESIGNER CLOTHES
MAYBE AS SIMPLE AS MY CHOICE IN MUSIC WHO REALLY KNOWS
BUT TO DESERVE TO LIVE WITH A BEAUTIFUL
ONE SUCH AS YOU
I HAVE TO ASK MYSELF AND WONDER…WHAT DID I DO

Big Sexy was born James R. White in Rialto, CA. He received his BA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in acting from CSU, San Bernardino. He has worked with Second City, The Groundlings and IO Comedy Sports. He has performed in a variety of shows and musicals including "Keep Hedz Ringin" (A Hip Hop Opera), "The Rocky Horror Show", "Othello", "Hamlet: The Artist Formerly Known as Prince of Denmark", and "The Last Emancipation". In 2009 Big Sexy relocated to Las Vegas. He began hosting with Karate Karaoke and rejoined the improv community, performing with The Lost Episodes, heavy involvement in the All You Can Improv Jam and S.E.T. which were weekly improv shows where he performed with his troupes Big Fun, The Lumberjacks, Phil 'N Sexy and Words With Frienemies. He was a cast member of FREE BEER! The Improv Show, Evil Dead The Musical, The Aussie Improv Comedy Explosion at the V Theater, Alibi The Show. Big Sexy is currently the School Program Director for the Shakespeare Institute of Nevada. He volunteers as an Improv coach at Mojave High School and works with Drama Kids International. Constantly writing he is now writing his first musical "Reservate This!'
