Women in the Entertainment Industry: Ksenia Dykina

Ksenia Dykina

We are asking women in the entertainment industry around the world some key questions about their life and career. Here is Ksenia Dykina based in Moscow, Russia.

1. What is your preferred pronoun?

She/her

2. In which part of the industry do you work?

Started as a dancer in a dance company, several musicals, music shows and TV shows. Continued as a performer in a circus production. Later on explored being on the management side of artistic as a dance captain, choreography captain and artistic coordinator.

3. Have you drawn professional inspiration from other women in the entertainment industry? How have they inspired you?

Every woman I have worked with in the entertainment industry taught me something that helped me find those puzzle pieces that i could add to building me-puzzle.

Working mums are an inspiration! Finding balance between work and family; the way they are so great at organising and having time for everything!

Powerful and showing that everything is possible!

In artistic world:

Pina Bausch: her commitment to create and share the kind of work that have never been done before; to look for new ideas; to not find a formula.
Marina Abramovic: her drive to explore the relationship between the audience and the artist, possibilities of the mind and limits of the body. Her way of seeing things.

4. What would you tell young women who are just starting out? What would you like them to know?

  • It’s going to be tough, but in the end it’s going to be so worth it!
  • Enjoy every moment of your journey, especially the first steps.
  • Don’t be afraid to fail or be less than perfect.
  • Don’t be afraid to learn new things-get out of your comfort zone.
  • Be curious and ask questions.

5. What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

For dance: Always try to find a new (not comfortable for you) way to move, so that you don’t use the same ‘roads’.

For management: Operate with kindness.

6. Please share one of your toughest challenges in your career. How did you overcome?

Leaving the stage. The energy that you share with the audience while you are performing, the state you are in when you fully immersed in your act-there is no other feeling like that. It was my choice to explore the other side of it-behind the scenes. I wanted to have a new experience and needed to get out of my comfort zone. I’m not sure I fully overcame it. But what helped me on the way is that I channeled my energy into helping and guiding other performers, sharing my knowledge and love for the show. Meditation and yoga helped a lot: learning how to work with your body and mind in a different way. And who knows, maybe one day I will have a chance to be on stage again. Never say never.

7. What is your favorite musical or play?

Billie Elliot.

8. What is your morning routine?

Meditation, stretching/yoga, breakfast, coffee, reading, journaling.

9. Drink of Choice?

Alcohol: red wine.

Non alcohol: golden milk

10. What is a phrase you are known for saying?

SERIOUSLY? and ONE MORE TIME 🙂

BONUS QUESTION
