Industry Networking: How To Get Your Next Gig

industry networking

People from outside this industry usually ask me: “so what’s your next gig?” or “how do you find these strange jobs you get?” or “so is it always the same company that employs you?”. I usually have to explain to them that when somebody is a freelance technician, it seems that who you know is just as important as what you know. And this seems to have always been the case to one extent or another.

Work Life Balance In Entertainment

Work life balance in entertainment

How do we find balance? Artists who have “grownup responsibilities”.

Currently I’m constructing a robot that will solve a Rubik’s cube, and I’m working on some plans to make an automatic dog door. I’m even building a vintage video game for my commodore 64 written in machine language. I think this need to build things goes back to when I was a kid.

First Day Working For Cirque Du Soleil

working for cirque du soleil

I started working for Cirque du Soleil on August 23rd, 1993, almost 24 years ago. The day before, I was working as an on-call followspot at The Mirage, nextdoor, for Siegfried and Roy. I had only been at The Mirage for seven months, and the change was a risk. Siegfried and Roy was the biggest show in town, and I was taking a job with a fairly unknown French Canadian company that was trying something new. Mystere was to be their first permanent-resident show.
