Arts Around the World: January 8-14, 2018
Celebrate some arts festivals to start the year with a bang!
January 8 – 14, 2018
Sydney Festival, Australia, January 6-28, 2018
Every January, Sydney Festival enlivens and transforms the city with a bold cultural celebration based on big ideas and cutting-edge art and performance. This year, Hyde Park will be transformed into an arts and theatre hub for the month, with a line-up that festival director Wesley Enoch calls a “prototype of the city’s cultural future”. This year’s instalment promises to be bold, colourful, and unabashed in its programming, with highlights including free concerts Symphony Under The Stars in Parramatta Park, and Circus City in Prince Alfred Square.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Melbourne, Australia, from January 11-February 25, 2018
This play, winner of five Tony Awards and seven Olivier Awards, brings Mark Haddon’s international best-selling novel to the stage in a phenomenal combination of storytelling and spectacle. Direct to the Melbourne Theatre Company stage from the UK, the Australian premiere of this global theatrical phenomenon will run until February 25.
Macau City Fringe Festival, Macau, January 12-21, 2018
The 17th Macau City Fringe Festival is themed “Treasure Hunting”, and will feature a total of 23 programs, as well as 10 activities including workshops and talks. The festival will be held across venues such as Senado Square, Jorge Álvares Square, the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Hac Sa Beach and the Old Court Building. Art breaks free from performance halls and invades all corners of the city, creating unlimited possibilities, leading the public to uncover the city’s treasures and explore overlooked values in the interaction between people.
