Home Learning with the RSC

As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak and the closure of UK schools, many young people will be working from home for the first time. But this doesn’t mean learning, or creativity, need to stop.

Whether you’re a parent looking for inspiration or a student wanting to get creative, we’ve got lots of resources and ideas you can use. Shakespeare’s play King Lear was first performed in 1606, shortly after a major outbreak of plague had shut down much of London, so it’s possible he wrote the play during that time. But if you’re not feeling inspired to write your own play just yet, below is a list of the content we already have that will help you to keep learning about his.

SHAKESPEARE LEARNING ZONE

  • A catalogue of games, images, videos and galleries arranged by play title where you can find out more about a play or revise one you know well.

SHAKESPEARE LEARNING ZONE YOUTUBE CHANNEL

  • All our videos can be found in playlists on our YouTube channel. These include introductions to language terms like iambic pentameter, and our actors talking about techniques they use to get to grips with text; a great time to test some of these out on a soliloquy or rhetorical speech.

SHAKESPEARE UNLOCKED

  • Videos exploring key moments, relationships and speeches from MacbethRomeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

LIVE LESSONS

  • RSC Live lessons on Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet are available for you to watch and take part in at any time.
  • Live lessons for Primary and Secondary made with the BBC can also be watched at any time.
