A Moment With Michelle Evans

TheatreArtLife was created by the live entertainment and theatre industry for the industry. Our contributors are industry professionals working about the globe on shows and productions. In our “A Moment With” series, we give the opportunity to our contributors to tell their story  and share their personal journey working in the entertainment industry.

How did you get started in your career?

My first time acting was at age 7 in the Marlo Thomas classic Free To Be…You and Me. I just remember that I got to wear a blue jean skirt and that was very cool for a 2nd grader in the late 80’s!

What is the best role/job/gig have you done and why?

The best job I have had is part of what I do currently and that is being a college audition coach. I love helping guide young professionals through the process and being a part of helping them start the next chapter of their career!

What was the worst task you were given when you started out?

My first acting job right out of college was an educational touring show. We had to take turns driving the moving truck as well as setting up and taking down all of our sets and tech each performance. Those three performance days were an extra challenge!

What do you think is your best skill?

I would say my best skill is my ability to adapt. I have worked is many different theatre companies with very different mission statements and work environments and have learned to roll with the punches!

What do others think is your best skill?

Probably my organization and promptness. In this business time is money and it often feels like we don’t have that much time!

What advice would you give your 18 year old self?

Don’t worry about other people. You are never going to please everyone so just don’t lose yourself in others’ expectations!

What’s your job now?

I wear many hats as a director, teacher and private acting and audition coach. I run my own business, MJE Acting Studio as well as a partner of CAP: College Audition Project.
